Jeddah Day Trips 2026: Obhur, Taif & Yanbu

Jeddah hides its best escapes just outside the city limits. Within a 2.5-hour drive you have a mountain town that runs 10 degrees cooler than the coast (Taif, with its cable car and rose farms), the Red Sea diving and corniche coast of Yanbu, and — barely 20 minutes up the coast — Obhur’s resort beaches with day passes. This planner pairs every option with the honest drive time from Jeddah, what an entry or day pass actually costs, and a fixed-price private ride to get there and back — no surprises, no “we’ll message you the quote”.

How do Obhur day trips work?

Obhur is Jeddah’s north-coast beach district, bound by an inlet just past the airport. The coastline splits into two very different day plans:

  1. Day-pass resorts — private clubs and resort beaches that sell a one-day pass (pool + beach access, usually with a meal). The flagship here is Narcissus Obhur Resort & Spa; a one-day pass with meal is listed around ~SAR 530 per adult (~$142), ~SAR 290 child, though this listing is aggregator-sourced and should be confirmed with the resort before you book (see below). You don’t stay overnight — you arrive in the morning, use the pool and beach, and leave after sunset.
  2. Public beaches — most of Obhur’s public beach is free to use; you pay only for your ride and any snacks. Expect basic facilities, local families, and a simpler day than the resort option.

The ride: every Obhur plan works best as a round-trip wait-and-return ride — one fixed fare, door-to-door, driver waits while you swim. See the Jeddah taxi service rate table for the in-town fare to Obhur Bay.

Resort day-pass note: the Obhur day-pass figure above is a third-party listing, not the resort’s official price sheet — confirm the day-pass rate and what it includes (meal, towel, pool access) on narcissushotels.com or by calling the resort before you head north.

Narcissus Obhur Resort & Spa

The flagship Obhur day destination: beachfront resort with a large pool, private beach, restaurants and kids’ facilities. A one-day pass (with meal) is listed around ~SAR 530 adult / ~SAR 290 child [[VERIFY] confirm official day-pass price on narcissushotels.com or by phone before publish].

  • Best plan: arrive ~10:00, full day on the pool/beach, late-afternoon departure.
  • What a pass covers: pool + beach + meal in the day-pass listing — confirm the exact inclusions at booking.
  • The ride: fixed round-trip fare, driver waits at the gate. Book your Obhur day transport

Rixos Obhur Jeddah Resort & Villas

A second full-service Obhur resort offering a similar day-visit lane (pool, beach, dining) on the same north-coast bay. Official day-pass terms are not yet on the public price sheet — confirm the day option and price at the resort before you go [[VERIFY] pull Rixos official day-pass terms before publish].

  • The ride: fixed round-trip fare from anywhere in Jeddah, wait-and-return. Book it

Silver Sands & south beaches

South of the Corneche, the low-key family alternative to Obhur: day-pass beach clubs with calm water and facilities, popular with families, running mainly in the cooler months (Oct–Mar is the comfortable season — see best time to visit Jeddah). Facilities and pricing vary between clubs and change seasonally, so check access and entry cost on the day [[VERIFY] current named-beach entry/fee status at publish].

  • The ride: fixed in-town fare, round trip with driver wait. Book it

Taif in a day

Taif, in the Sarawat mountains ~170–200 km east of Jeddah (2–2.5 h by car), is Jeddah’s classic mountain escape — sitting at ~1,800–1,880 m, it runs noticeably cooler than the coastal city, and its switchback approach road (Al-Hada) is itself part of the experience. This is the day trip to book when the coast feels too hot and you want real scenery.

The honest cost context: a Jeddah→Taif transfer from an operator typically runs ~SAR 350–500, and organised “Taif day tours” from agencies run $280–500 per person. Our answer is a flat driver-guided return tour from SAR 1,100 for the car (up to 4 in a sedan) — the whole day, not a per-head sticker — and a one-way transfer from SAR 400 if you prefer your own schedule.

The driver-guided Taif loop (12–13 h, from SAR 1,100 per car)

With a full day and our driver behind the wheel, the recommended Taif loop runs like this (attraction entries are paid on-site — we sell the ride, not the tickets):

  1. Depart Jeddah ~06:30–07:00 — up the Al-Hada mountain road (switchbacks and viewpoints; leave the driving to us).
  2. Al-Hada Cable Car first, ~09:00 — the 4.2–4.5 km gondola down to Al-Kar Tourist Village and back (see fare note below). Go early: queues build mid-afternoon.
  3. Lunch + Taif old souq — the souq and honey market near Shubra Palace; traditional Taif eats (saleeg, areesah) and the honey shops.
  4. Shubra Palace (exterior) — the famous rawasheen-balconied palace is under restoration; the exterior and gardens are the stop (see note).
  5. Rose farm (March–May) or Al Rudaf Park — in harvest season the Al-Shafa/Al-Hada rose farms open for distillery visits (free entry); otherwise Al Rudaf Park’s gardens and musical fountains.
  6. Al Shafa views (time permitting) — the higher, cooler village with juniper forest and viewpoint.
  7. Return late afternoon — back in Jeddah within the 12–13 h envelope.

Prices on this loop that stay “range + confirm, never invented”:

  • Al-Hada Cable Car: sources diverge this year (SAR 150/300 return vs ~SAR 70–100) — budget “roughly SAR 70–300 return per adult, confirm at the station”; hours ~09:00–18:00 (to ~20:00 in season), closes in high winds — confirm before you drive up [[VERIFY] operator’s own fare/hours page].
  • Shubra Palace: exterior only — the palace is under complete restoration in 2026 and there is no interior ticket to buy; the façade and garden are the visit.
  • Rose farms (Al-Ameer / Al-Zahrani, harvest mid-March–May): free entry; rose oil ~SAR 100–300 a bottle. Useful only in season.
  • Al Rudaf Park: free/nominal entry; evening musical fountains.

The ride: driver-guided return tour from SAR 1,100 (12–13 h, car + fuel + tolls + driver only) in a sedan, or larger vehicles up to the Coaster for groups — see the full Jeddah to Taif taxi page. One-way Taif transfer from SAR 400.

Al-Hada driving note: the mountain road is a real switchback climb. We handle the car and the route; you watch the scenery. No self-drive links here by design.

Yanbu in a day

Yanbu, ~300–330 km north up the red Sea coastal highway (Route 5, 3.5–4 h from Jeddah), is the coast’s other face: a working seaport that has quietly become a scuba and family-beach town. Be honest with yourself about the day: a same-day Jeddah↔Yanbu round trip is a long day by definition (about 7–8 hours of driving inside the 10–12 h card) — it is the “everything handled, door to door” option for a determined day, not a casual afternoon. For a relaxed dive weekend, overnight in Yanbu instead.

The cost context: real “Yanbu day trips from Jeddah” on the market are dive/snorkel packages with the round transfer folded in — $100–330 per person sliding by group size (2→7 people) with a dive operator. Our transport-only alternative: a driver-guided return tour from SAR 1,100 for the whole car (10–12 h) — you keep it simple, and any water activity is booked with the operator directly (we don’t mark up the dive).

What a Yanbu day looks like (10–12 h, from SAR 1,100 per car)

  • Corniche ride — free, open 24 h; the ~11 km waterfront promenade with parks, playgrounds and cafés (North Corniche = traditional parks + camel rides, South Corniche = modern marina + dining).
  • Royal Commission Beach — the signature stretch: turquoise water, soft white sand, family-friendly shallow entry, rarely crowded. Free to access.
  • Snorkel or Discover Scuba — book the water leg directly with a dive operator that runs out of Sharm Yanbu (snorkel tours from ~$100/person, Discover Scuba ~$295→235 sliding): Yanbu Diving. We sell the ride to and from the marina — never the dive itself.
  • Old town (Yanbu Al-Balad) — coral-stone houses and narrow alleys, free to wander; the Heritage Museum is small with a ~$5 listed entry [[VERIFY] hours/price].
  • Early-bird fish market — liveliest ~06:00–09:00 with grilled-fish stalls.

Best months: October–April for diving (water 24–27 °C, best visibility Nov–Mar); the Yanbu Flower Festival runs late Jan–early Feb.

The ride: driver-guided return tour from SAR 1,100 (10–12 h), larger vehicles for groups — see the Jeddah to Yanbu taxi page. One-way Yanbu transfer from SAR 550.

Red Sea & boat days

If the fixed destinations don’t fit, a day-boat out of Jeddah or the Obhur coast does — half-day and sunset snorkelling trips, water sports and fishing charters (informational only: we don’t run or price boat operators). For transport to the marina, use a fixed in-town ride from the Jeddah taxi service.

What’s the safe plan for a first-time family day trip?

A stress-free formula that works for all four options above:

  1. Go mid-morning, aim to be back before dark — especially for Taif (2–2.5 h back) and Yanbu (3.5–4 h back).
  2. Take water and cash — resorts and parks mostly take cash/Mada; the covered options (Narcissus, Rixos) are fine on cards.
  3. Dress for the venue — beach clubs and resorts have dress rules; on public beaches keep to modest conservative swimwear and cover-ups. General culture ground rules live in the Jeddah travel guide.
  4. Book the ride and the day pass separately — your driver’s price is the ride only; entry/day passes are confirmed and paid where you’re visiting (we never bundle what we can’t own).
  5. Confirm same-day openings — cable car (wind closures) and resort day-pass terms change; one WhatsApp to us and one call to the venue covers it.

FAQs: Jeddah day trips

What is the best day trip from Jeddah? For scenery and an escape from the heat, Taif (~2–2.5 h, cable car + rose farms) is the classic; for a Red Sea coast day, Yanbu’s corniche and Royal Commission Beach (~3.5–4 h); for the closest day, Obhur’s resort beaches with day passes (~20–30 min).

How far is Obhur beach from Jeddah? Obhur Bay is about 15–20 km north of central Jeddah, a 20–30 minute ride — a fixed round-trip fare with a waiting driver is the easy way in.

Can you visit a resort beach in Obhur just for the day? Yes — several Obhur resorts (Narcissus, Rixos) sell day passes with pool/beach access, usually with a meal. Day-pass prices are ~SAR 500+ per adult in listings — confirm the exact rate and inclusions with the resort before you go.

Is it worth doing Yanbu in one day from Jeddah? Only if you’re prepared for a long day — it’s ~3.5–4 h each way (7–8 h of driving). With a driver-guided return tour it’s very doable for a corniche/beach day; for diving or a relaxed weekend, overnight in Yanbu instead.

How much is a taxi from Jeddah to Taif? Our one-way fixed transfer is from SAR 400, or a full driver-guided return tour (12–13 h) from SAR 1,100 per car. Operators in the area quote ~SAR 350–500 for the one-way trip.

When is the best time of year for Jeddah day trips? October–March. Comfortable temperatures, peak diving season for Yanbu (Nov–Mar), the rose season in Taif (Mar–May), and the best months for the public beaches.

Is the Taif cable car worth it? Yes — it’s the only way down into the Al-Kar valley (4.2–4.5 km, ~15–20 min each way) and the views are the point of the day. Budget ~SAR 70–300 return per adult depending on the current fare tier (sources conflict — confirm at the station) and go early to beat queues.

Can you visit Shubra Palace in Taif? The palace is under restoration and interior visits aren’t available in 2026 — it’s an exterior stop (the balconies and gardens are worth the detour).
