Abraj Al Bait Clock Tower Guide: Viewing Deck, Tickets & Hours

The Abraj Al Bait Clock Tower is the most visible landmark on the Makkah skyline — a 601-metre, 120-storey complex of hotels, a shopping mall, and two observation decks that look directly over the Masjid al-Haram and the Kaaba. It sits on the south side of the mosque complex, and the observation deck (the Clock Tower Museum on the upper floors and the Sky Bridge balcony on a lower level) offers a perspective of the Haram’s scale, the Kaaba’s position within it, and the ring of mountains around the city that you simply cannot get from street level. If you are in Makkah and the crowds at the Kaaba level are heavy, or you want a moment of quiet elevation — the deck is an option.

Important: the spiritual experience is at the Kaaba, not above it. The deck is a tourist perspective, not a replacement for Tawaf or prayer. Go for the view, go for the architecture, but go knowing that the real event is 601 metres below.

The viewing decks — what you see

Clock Tower Museum (upper floors): this is the main observation deck — a multi-floor museum space that wraps around the tower with floor-to-ceiling glass looking straight down onto the Haram, the Kaaba, and the surrounding mountains. You can see the full Tawaf area, the Safa–Marwah corridor roof, and the ring of Makkah neighbourhoods spreading into the valley.

Sky Bridge / Balcony (lower viewing level): a smaller, open-air (or partially enclosed) balcony that extends from the main tower structure. The perspective is closer to the Kaaba level but still elevated — a quieter vantage for late-afternoon or sunset views.

Which to choose? The Museum deck has the better 360-degree view; the Sky Bridge is cheaper and often less crowded. Both give you the perspective of the Haram’s scale that you miss at ground level — the sheer size becomes visible in a way the crowds inside cannot show.

Why go up vs staying at ground level?

Ground (Kaaba level) Above (viewing deck)
Spiritual experience The core of the visit — Tawaf, prayer, Sa’i A perspective, not a worship space
View Close to the Kaaba matrix; you are part of the Tawaf You see the full layout, the scale, the mountain ring
Crowds Heavy during peak times Light to moderate; controlled capacity
When to go up Always — the mosque is the destination Once, for the view, when the Kaaba-level crowd is heavy

How to get to the tower

The Abraj Al Bait complex is directly adjacent to the Haram’s south side. The ticketing entrance for the viewing decks is inside the complex, accessible from the mall level or the Fairmont hotel lobby.

  • From your hotel: most central hotels are a 5–15 minute walk or a 5-minute cab ride to the complex.
  • From the Haram: exit through the south gates (Gate 68–74 area); the tower entrance is right there.
  • From elsewhere in Makkah: a fixed-price private car to the complex’s drop-off zone. Book the Makkah taxi service.
