Jubail Travel Guide 2026 — Beaches & Tarout Island

Jubail is an unusual Saudi destination — a purpose-built industrial city of 350,000 people with some of the best public beach infrastructure in the Eastern Province, a 7,000-year-old island, and well-maintained Royal Commission parks. This guide covers the attractions, how to reach them, and fixed-price taxi options.

Is Jubail worth visiting?

Yes — for Al-Fanateer Beach and Tarout Island. Jubail is not a conventional tourist destination, but the Royal Commission’s investment in recreational infrastructure produced facilities that any city would be proud of: a wide public beach, extensive corniche, and well-maintained parks. Most visitors combine Jubail with a Dammam or Al Khobar trip.

How long: 1-2 days covers Al-Fanateer Beach, Tarout Island, and the corniche.

Top attractions in Jubail

1. Al-Fanateer Beach — best public beach in the Eastern Province

A wide arc of white sand along the Arabian Gulf, approximately 5 km long. The Royal Commission maintains the facilities consistently: clean sand, changing rooms, children’s play areas, and beach cafés.

  • Entry: free
  • Water: calm and shallow — good for children
  • Temperature: ~20°C winter, ~35°C summer
  • Weekends: busy Thursday-Friday evenings; mornings quieter
  • Access: taxi from Jubail city centre

2. Tarout Island — 7,000 years of history

Connected to the mainland by a short causeway, Tarout Island has been continuously settled since the Dilmun civilisation (~5000 BCE). It was a significant trading hub between Mesopotamia and the Indus Valley.

  • Tarout Fort: Portuguese-era fort built on a Dilmun tell. Partially restored. Free entry. Good views across the island.
  • Old Tarout Village: traditional Gulf architecture with painted wooden doors (some 100+ years old), coral-stone walls, old merchant houses. 45-90 min to explore.
  • Tarout Museum: small local museum documenting the island’s history. Irregular hours; mornings most reliable. Free.
  • Getting there: ~15-20 min from Jubail by taxi

3. Jubail Corniche & King Fahd Park

The corniche runs several kilometres along the seafront with walking paths, palm trees, and public seating. King Fahd Park is the largest green space in Jubail with manicured gardens, walking paths, and a children’s playground.

  • Entry: free
  • Best time: evenings

4. Royal Commission Heritage Village

An open-air heritage display near the city centre showing traditional Eastern Province architecture, wells, and crafts. Primarily used for school groups but open to general visitors.

  • Entry: free
  • Hours: Saturday-Wednesday mornings most reliable
